Living Tradition
I·08 · Dimension of Song · Open for collaboration
Dress, song and ritual — brought back before they fall silent.
Grandmother’s headscarf in a chest, a melody only one singer still knows, a paper cut-out pattern behind a holy picture. We reconstruct Polish folk dress, objects, songs and music from photographs, recordings and stories — and give them back to people.
Problem
Regional costumes decay in chests, and recordings of old songs have never been described. The last singers, musicians and seamstresses are passing away — and with them the knowledge of how to sew, play and sing it.
